31) Self worth
To have self worth is to know that you are valuable, to know that you are worthy of respect. The truth is everyone has value. Dignity comes from the knowledge of the value you provide; your head is able to stay high knowing you’re an asset, not a liability.
True self worth comes from self-sacrifice, not self-love that is an unbiased adherence to a fixed central principle. The dignity of the judge arises from the fact that in the performance of their duty they set aside all personal considerations and stands firmly upon the law. Their little personality, impermanent and easily moved, becomes nothing while the law, enduring and majestic becomes all. Should a judge in deciding a case forget the law and fall into personal feelings and prejudice, they would lose their dignity.
